'The Last Supper-Ever'

In conjunction with Ailyos Art. 'The Last Supper-Ever'. The waters are rising due to Global Warming. Species are disappearing. Could Homo Sapiens be facing their 'Last Supper'. Have we as a species betrayed Mother Earth as Judas betrayed Christ?

Conception Pool.

A small deep pool made from a moss covered tree trunk and surrounded by stones and wild flowers. A symbol of the start of life and interactive - plant a seed to begin life cycle metaphorically.

This is a pool hollowed from a moss covered tree trunk. It symbolises the start of life and is a metaphor for conception. The visitor is encouraged to float a seed which signifies the beginning of the cycle of birth.

Here one can peer through the aperture and view high in the trees the symbol for the beginning of life.

A trail is followed by walking along stepping stones each with a fertility symbol painted onto the stone with lime wash. A log is placed for walking along and then more stepping stones before arriving at the Vulva.

Somebody's Baby

My current installation work was inspired by the fact that not all the world has enough to eat. The subject of Infant mortality in the Third World is not an easy one to embrace but I trust the installation will be appealing as well as thought provoking, delivering a strong message. The babies are plump and sweet but also chilling as they are just mannequins with no features. Their anonymity demonstrates the universality of parenthood. A baby’s life is precious regardless of nationality or religion. These babies who succumb to a premature death are not just ‘anybody’s’ baby, but, ‘somebody’s’ baby’. There is enough food to feed the whole world and we must find ways to ensure young lives receive enough sustenance to survive despite disease, war, famine and ignorance.

Green Green House

Plastic Bottles

The ‘Green Green House’ was constructed using over a thousand recycled plastic bottles, collected over a period of 3 to 4 months from friends and the local recycling centre. The construction relies on the natural rigidity of the bottle columns as I didn’t want to resort to a ready-built frame. This meant a lot of trial and error in getting the roof self-supporting. I also made use of the bottle bases, sewing them together to make the stained glass window over the front door, as well as a bead curtain for the entrance. The green house has a wonderful fluidity and luminosity whilst creating a harmonious link to its natural surroundings. In this climate of enhanced conservational awareness, it is exciting to bring a practical element to recycled materials whether it be inspirational, educational or regenerative. I trust I have demonstrated that trash can be transformed into a beautiful building that sparkles and shimmers in the sun while conserving heat and rainwater.

Skate

This was an installation put into the Teignmouth Recycled Art in the Landscape exhibition (T.R.A.I.L.). It was aimed to the youth of Teignmouth who had been campaigning for a cycle path for many years.

This installation aimed at the youth of our local community Teignmouth in the SouthWest of Britain. They had been campaigning for a skate park for many years and were eager to contribute their broken down skate boards to this art piece in order to promote their frustration. The work became interactive as young people took broken boards they felt could be salvaged but every morning a small pile of donated boards appeared.

Spirit Dancer

A dancer from the Royal Ballet came to pose for a small group. He had such athleticism and poise. I completed the wax image in record time. I have exaggerated his limbs to emphasise his beauty and elegance.
